Individual & Group Therapy

The decision to begin therapy can be a difficult one, and CFCC respects your need to understand and feel comfortable with your choices. We take the time to understand you as a whole person, including your challenges as well as the strengths you bring to a given situation. Our select group of therapists will offer information about the range of the evidence-based therapies that are known to work for the specific problems you are facing and empower you to make the most informed choice. Your goals will be clearly defined so that you know what to expect of therapy. We believe in forming a strong alliance with you, working through whatever arises, in order to help you achieve success. If you have experienced therapy that has not helped you achieve your goals, we encourage you to contact us to learn how results-oriented therapy really works.

Our therapists offer cognitive-behavioral techniques that empower you to change negative thought patterns and improve your mood. For instance, weteach you the tools to overcome depression, anxiety, and anger problems, as well as sleep disorders, eating and weight issues, grief and loss issues, relational difficulties, self-esteem problems, and life transitions. Therapy can help you shift your patterns of thinking and behaving so that you feel more confident and connected. By reducing self-sabotaging patterns, you can also improve difficulties within your relationships and draw others closer to you. Our wide range of skills and specialty areas are what has made Child and Family Counseling Center the top choice of local consumers and referring physicians since 1980.

Parent Education

Parent Coaching at CFCC is designed to support families in raising successful children through competent and confident parenting.  We help parents acquire the problem-solving skills necessary to have a major influence in developing happy, emotionally healthy kids.  Research shows that an increase in parenting skills promotes positives outcomes for both parents and children. We help parents navigate the challenges of single parenting, divorced and blended family issues, ADHD parenting techniques, sibling rivalry, parenting for children with behavior problems, learning and self-esteem issues, attachment disorders, and more. CFCC offers sound clinical advice and evidence-based parenting that have demonstrated success. We welcome a chance to discuss with you how parent education might best fit your family's needs.

Children and Adolescents

Child and Family Counseling Center offers solutions for children and adolescents as well. Whether your child is in pre-school or in college, therapy can provide essential help in dealing with minor to severe emotional and behavioral difficulties. Despite parents best intentions, children and families can be negatively impacted by difficult life circumstances. Additionally, children and teens may suffer from worry, overwhelming fears, insecurity, deep sadness, explosive anger and other internal conflicts. Many of these struggles can then lead to withdrawal and avoidance or acting out in defiant, impulsive, or uncooperative ways both at home, in school, and in other areas of life. Parents often struggle to know; Is this just NORMAL behavior, or is this a REAL problem? The therapists at CFCC have extensive experience working with children of all ages, including adolescents, using proven techniques to address these challenges. We work closely with parents, family physicians and teachers in developing a treatment plan that best suits the individual needs of the family. Our practical approaches take into account a child's age and maturity, with a focus on teaching them adaptive skills to apply to their difficulties, helping them to be more cooperative and content, happier, and better able to relate well with others.

TESTING AND EVALUATION SERVICES

Comprehensive evaluations are conducted with children, adolescents, and adults with a history of developmental and/or acquired injuries including traumatic brain injury, learning disabilities, ADHD, Pervasive Developmental Disorders, epilepsy, stroke, or other neurological and/or psychiatric conditions. Evaluations include a battery of standardized tests used to help identify a person’s unique pattern of strengths and weaknesses. Evaluations can be used to help clarify diagnosis, as well as to assist with treatment planning, including outlining educational recommendations.

Educational

Educational evaluations are conducted to determine if a student has a learning disability or specific academic challenge. Evaluations can also help document eligibility for accommodations or modifications in the academic setting, as well as on standardized testing such as the SAT or ACT.

Psychological evaluations involve a thorough diagnostic interview combined with administration of standardized testing that may include assessment of a person’s cognitive ability, as well as their personality style and emotional functioning. This information is often useful for the purposes of mental health diagnosis, as well as treatment planning.

We provide fully detailed and extensively investigated parenting evaluations employing a team approach. These court-ordered evaluations are conducted in accordance with the Colorado legal statutes that pertain to Allocation of Parental Rights (C.R.S. 14-10-124) and Evaluations and Reports (C.R.S. 14-10-127). Our evaluations are performed with particular attention to the Best Interests of the Child. Given the stressful nature of the divorce process, and the critical decisions that need to be made over custody issues, our caring and experienced team approaches this process in a gentle yet thorough manner with minimal invasiveness to your children.
